Control Room Chaos

A peek inside the control room reveals more problems. The young man in the blue shirt is Jay, who is the producer and the director of the 2 pm news bulletin today. Directing seems to consist of hanging around and telling the switcher, playback and audio operators to roll tape if they don't figure it out on their own. There's no real rundown of any kind, just a casual list of stories called a "planning sheet." One of the changes we will make right away is putting a director in the control room to bring order out of chaos and manage the "look" of the show.
Again, these are YOUNG people. The girl in the middle is 15 and works as a Dhiveli-English translator. Zihunath, running the prompter, is one of the best English language news readers. But as you can see, everyone pitches in as needed. Besides news bulletins, they also work on current affairs programs.
