Short Eats

The island chief of Haminaadhoo went out of his way to show us around and even treated us to a nice lunch of "short eats." These tasty tidbits are everywhere in Maldives, little pastry pockets usually stuffed with spicy chicken or fish. The "sweet" variety can be similar to vanilla flavored french toast, or little square cakes flavored with fresh coconut or banana.

Here's the Island Chief and our logistical coordinator, Salim, showing Elaine the many uses for a coconut. We also learned that some island chiefs are good hosts.
