Newsroom Changes

Many skeptics said that when my team left Maldives at the end of March, the TVM newsroom would quickly backside into its old ways of government propaganda. I am delighted to report that this is NOT the case.
News director Abdullah Rameez and his team have continued to exercise their editorial freedom and no longer air unedited press releases and videos from the president's office. They are asking tough questions about the many problems facing this country, such as inflation and the somewhat unsettled situation that will result from the transition to the new constititution.

Still anchoring the 8 pm prime newscast with style and class is Heena Walid, although she is now in front of a new and much more attractive blue background on the set. The studio is still too small to easily fit more than one or two guests, but a new set in a bigger studio will have to wait until the next budget.
Below is the old background...

And the new one.
