Learning Curve

Andrew and Laura have been contributing to the English newscast on TVM. Here's Andrew, working with foreign desk producer JD on a package about Male restaurants raising their prices an average of eight percent in the past month. The restaurants are also having problems getting certain supplies at any price. Andrew even did his first standup!

Laura worked on Maldives' reaction to the global warming agreement announced at the G8 summit in Japan. She worked the phones to get an interview with the foreign minister. One of the challenges for TVM news is to change the way public officials here think about news. Most officials believe they should send press releases and go on the air whenever they feel like it. Their offices are not really set up to respond to reporters requesting interviews on newsworthy topics. This has to change.
