Morning News

The multicultural breakfast buffet at the Cinnamon Grand has everything from fish soup to curry to fresh papaya to a Sri Lankan noodle dish called hopper. The restaurant overlooks a pond stocked with giant koi. Nearby is an outdoor cafe and the ground-level pool.
It was breakfast in paradise, until I began to read the Daily Mirror newspaper that was delivered to my door.
Within the first three pages of the front section were three separate stories about journalists under attack.
Press freedom groups, such as Reporters Without Borders, have criticized these actions but officials here tend to be dismissive of outside organizations. As a guest in this country, it's not for me to judge, but it's clear that the post-conflict environment presents challenges that journalists in the US rarely have to face.
