"Open government" is a major goal in Maldives, and the open feeling is evident in the changes to the official office building for the president and his staff. I was invited for lunch in the staff cafeteria and enjoyed the tuna pasta as well as the harbor view. It's important to point out that this is not run with public money. It's a co-op run and paid for by the staff. Maybe some Washington bureaucrats could learn from this idea! Any profits from the cafeteria are used for such things as group gifts to colleagues getting married or having a baby.
